This site argues that hidden costs matter. That obliges us to be specific about where our own numbers come from and how we are paid.
Where the numbers come from
Three sources, each doing a different job.
- The official EUR/CVE rate of 110.265 is set by the Banco de Cabo Verde. It is a fixed peg, not a market price, so it is written into this site as a constant rather than fetched from an exchange rate feed. A market API returning a different value for CVE would be wrong.
- Rates for other currencies come from the European Central Bank reference rates, retrieved via the Frankfurter API. They are cached and refreshed several times a day. Every non-euro conversion crosses through the euro and then through the fixed peg.
- Remittance costs — both the fee and the exchange rate margin — come from the World Bank's Remittance Prices Worldwide, published quarterly under a CC BY 4.0 licence. We show the reporting period alongside every comparison.
How we calculate what a transfer costs
Most comparison tables rank by the advertised fee. We do not, because the fee is only part of the cost and usually the smaller part. A service can charge one euro and then hand over escudos at a rate two percent below the official one, which on a larger transfer costs far more than the fee it advertises.
So we compute the amount that actually arrives: the amount sent, minus the fee, multiplied by the rate the provider actually offers. Results are ranked by that figure and nothing else. Where the World Bank measures fees at two benchmark amounts, we interpolate between them; outside that measured range we hold the nearest value and label it as estimated rather than extrapolating a two-point line into territory nobody measured.
The World Bank tracks the Portugal and United States corridors to Cape Verde. For other countries we show that no data exists rather than estimating. An invented comparison would be worse than none.
How this site makes money
Some outbound links to transfer services are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you open an account through them. Where such an arrangement exists it is marked on the link.
The ordering of results is never affected. Comparisons are sorted purely by the amount delivered in escudos, computed from World Bank data, and the affiliate relationships are stored separately from the cost data in the codebase specifically so that a commercial arrangement cannot influence what you are shown. A service with no affiliate programme still appears, and still wins if it delivers the most escudos.
What this site is not
It is an information service, not a financial adviser, a broker or a money transmitter. Nothing here is a personal recommendation, and we do not handle anyone's money.
Rates and costs shown are indicative and may be out of date by the time you read them. Always confirm the actual rate and fee with the provider before committing to a transfer.
Privacy
We do not ask for or store personal information. The converter and calculators run entirely in your browser — the amounts you type are never sent to us.
